How 30 Rai Supports Elephant Welfare at PENR
One of the defining features of Phuket Elephant Nature Reserve is our natural setting. Our sanctuary covers 30 rai of protected jungle habitat, equivalent to approximately 48,000 square metres, 4.8 hectares, or nearly 12 acres. This provides our rescued elephants with the opportunity to move through a varied landscape that includes woodland, open areas, and natural vegetation.
Rather than remaining in one location throughout the day, our gentle giants can choose where they want to go. They may spend time browsing for food, exploring different parts of the sanctuary, or relaxing beneath the trees. This freedom is an essential part of our approach to elephant welfare.
