Hit the Gym: Phuket’s Top Fitness Centres

Bangtao and the surrounding Cherngtalay area are home to some of the best gyms on our island. These aren’t just basic hotel fitness rooms; they’re fully equipped spaces offering everything from weight training to group classes, often with international-standard trainers and a friendly, social vibe.

UTime Fitness at Blue Tree is one of Phuket’s most popular gyms. With its easily accessible location, new and industry-leading equipment, friendly staff, and ample car parking, it’s loved by locals and visitors alike. The gym has 24-hour access, although staffed hours will vary. Contracts are available, but you don’t have to take one out. You can start with a free day pass and then choose between daily, weekly, or monthly fees. And best of all, UTime Fitness is a neighbour of ours! We’re right on the same road and less than five minutes apart by car.

Gym Club Phuket is another brilliant fitness centre in the area. They have the equipment and facilities for cardio, free weights, machine workouts, HIIT training, and powerlifting. The club also has a spa area with a swimming pool, ice plunge, magnesium pool, sauna, and steam room.

Swimming and Water-Based Fitness in Phuket

Phuket’s beaches aren’t just for sunbathing, they’re perfect for fitness too. Open-water swimming is popular in the early mornings, especially at Bangtao and Nai Harn, where the waves are generally calm and the water is clean. However, conditions change with the seasons, so always pay attention to lifeguard warnings. For example, conditions in the high season (November to April) are suitable for swimming in the sea, while in the low season (May to October), you will find rougher conditions and stronger currents.

For those who prefer the pool, many hotels and gyms offer day passes for access to lap swimming facilities. The Thanyapura Phuket sports resort in our island’s north has Olympic-standard pools and is popular with triathletes and serious swimmers.

Stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) and surfing are also great for core strength and balance. Rental shops along Bangtao and Layan beaches offer boards by the hour, and you’ll often have calm conditions in the mornings. Talay Surf is a great place to start for all your surfing and SUP needs.

Phuket Yoga, Pilates, and Mindful Movement

After a few days of high-intensity workouts, you might feel the need to stretch, reset, or just reconnect with your breath. Phuket has a thriving yoga and wellness community, with classes available for all levels. Yoga Republic in Bangtao is one of the island’s most popular studios, offering daily hot yoga, yin, gentle flow classes, and more in a peaceful, indoor setting. They’re another wonderful neighbour of ours too!

Whether you prefer beach yoga at sunrise or candlelit meditation in the evenings, our island makes it easy to find stillness in the middle of an active holiday. Golf, Tennis, and Other Sporty Pursuits in Phuket

Not all fitness has to feel like a workout. Sometimes the best way to move is by playing — and Phuket offers plenty of that too. Golfers will love the quality and variety of courses here. Laguna Golf Phuket, located right in Bangtao, is a beautifully maintained 18-hole course with mountain and lagoon views. It’s one of the most accessible options for visitors, and open to players of all levels.

Further afield, Red Mountain Golf Club and Blue Canyon Country Club offer more of a challenge, with dramatic landscapes and championship-calibre design. Dive into our picks for the best golf courses in Phuket to find out more.

If tennis is more your speed, you’ll find courts at Laguna, Thanyapura, and various resort complexes across the island. Many offer coaching or friendly matches for drop-in guests, although booking a court in advance is always recommended. The MNT Indoor Tennis Center and PTP Club Phuket are two highly rated Bangtao-area options.
